Service User and Carer Involvement

It is important that service users and carers become involved in the work we do, including:

  • the Trust’s Governance
  • user focused monitoring
  • interviewing and recruiting of staff
  • training and research.

We believe that the Trust should test itself against standards within the much-voiced Mental Health Service User Statement – “Nothing about us, without us”.

The Trust recognises that section 11 of the Heath and Social Care Act 2001 places a duty on us to involve service users and carers in the process of improving and developing services. The Trust is committed to this objective. Participation must not be tokenistic but be real involvement in decision-making.

The values that underpin the Trust's strategy are as follows:

  • Assisting you to live a normal life as far as possible
  • Assisting you to be included in local communities and activities
  • Not stigmatizing you or discriminating against you on any grounds
  • Providing easy access to up-to-date and accurate information
  • Providing genuine options and/or choices of care available locally
  • Personalised care plans that are built around your wishes
  • Ensure that services and staff promote and enable recovery and well-being.

Service user and carer presentations to the Trust Board

Would you like to do a presentation for the Trust Board Meeting on your experiences of Mental Health Services in Kent and Medway?

If you would then speak to your care co-ordinator or forum worker for an application form or download the application form below:

 Service user/carer presentations to the board application form

All forms must have a supporting statement completed by a KMPT member of staff or forum worker.

Completed application forms must be returned to the PPCI department (address on right of this page) for consideration.

The PPCI department will talk through the process with the applicant and place their name on a list of people willing to take part.
 
It is envisaged that the board will listen to a specific service user/carer experience every two months.
