Community Engagement Strategy

Welcome to the Community Engagement section of the KMPT website. We will develop this page to give feedback from events attended and upcoming events, hosted by community partners and KMPT.  We hope to broaden out the range of activities contained on these pages to reach out to communities and support community groups – to encourage effective and wide-reaching community engagement.

Strategy

Community Engagement is a reciprocal process in which KMPT staff work together with the community, and where power is shared and values such as equality and respect are adhered to.

The Community Engagement Strategy for Kent and Medway NHS Partnership Trust has been developed to underpin the excellent practice that already occurs within the Trust. The strategy was launched at an event in February 2012 and provided an opportunity to learn about the strategy and meet representatives of community groups that Trust staff can work collaboratively with.

Developing a Community Engagement Strategy

The Trust's Community Engagement Officer travelled around Kent and Medway throughout 2010, meeting local communities to discuss issues around involvement, partnership working and equalities.

Feedback from these meetings highlighted a need to develop an improved approach towards accessing real expertise within our communities. To help achieve this we worked with our communities to develop a Community Engagement Strategy.

Local people, particularly those that use our services, will be vital to the success of this strategy.

We started the process of developing the new Strategy in December 2010 and a Community Engagement Strategy (CES) Working Group was established to develop the strategy.

We consulted on our first draft from June 1 until 22 July 2011.
