Eco work begins at St Martin's
28 April 2011

We are building a purpose-built inpatient facility on the St Martin's Hospital site in Canterbury which will be in use by October 2012.

The unit will have two 18 bed wards for younger adults and will be on the part of the site currently occupied by the Mount Zeehan building, which is due to be demolished in May 2011.

In preparation for the new inpatient unit build, and the demolition of Mount Zeehan, ecologists have been on site carrying out work in order to ensure the surrounding wild life, including bats and birds, is not affected.

The new unit has been designed by Devereux Architects working closely with members of staff, service users and others in a lengthy design development process, which was completed just before Christmas 2010.

The Canterbury City Council has granted planning consent for construction of the facilities.  The Trust’s construction partner is Kier Health.

You can follow the progress of the eco work and the build by visiting the East Kent Redesign page.
