BREEAM Excellent Rating

The design for the new wards at St Martin's Hospital, Canterbury have been awarded a BREEAM rating of Excellent.

BREEAM is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, with 200,000 buildings with certified BREEAM assessment ratings and over a million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990.

BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance.

Update on the new build

Work began on the building of a brand new £10m mental health in-patient facility at St Martin’s Hospital back in August.

Work has progressed well and the contract completion date for the new wards is 24 September 2012 with an operational date of 5 November 2012.

The Art Group is currently liaising with Canterbury College with a view to providing artwork for the new wards. In addition we are taking the opportunity to work together to develop a working partnership to the benefit of both organisations, which brings students into St Martin’s and service users into the community via workshops, exhibitions, projects and other art initiatives to help promote community relationships and awareness.
