Early Intervention for Psychosis Service (West Kent and Medway)

If you live in Swale, Medway, Dartford, Gravesend, Swanley, Maidstone or South West Kent, the West Kent Team can help you.

We work with people between 14 and 65 years old who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis, and who have been experiencing symptoms for less than three years.

In April 2016, NHS England introduced a new access and waiting time standard for all people experiencing first episode psychosis (FEP). The standard requires that more than 50 per cent of people with FEP start a NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) recommended package of care within two weeks of referral.

We offer advice, carry out assessments and can offer support for up to three years. We can advise you about how mental health problems can be identified early and how our service can help.

Assessments and interventions are provided by care coordinators, who may be Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists or Social Workers. Our psychology team also provide interventions.

Support Time and Recovery Workers are a vital part of the team and they assist people with ordinary practical activities to help their recovery.

Carers

Our service recognises the valuable contribution carers make to the lives of individuals using our services. We strive to ensure we provide information at an early stage; offer the opportunity for a carer's assessment and ongoing carer welcome and engagement events throughout the year.

Please contact us if you would like to go on our mailing list for:

  • carers events
  • information of other events that may be helpful in your role as a carer
  • to register your interest for a carers assessment and a carers pack of information
  • Early Intervention in Psychosis newsletter.

Time4Recovery

The South of England Early Intervention in Psychosis Programme (Time4Recovery) has launched a new website with information to help people through their experience of psychosis and support recovery. The 'Epic Minds' website aims to help demystify psychosis, reduce stigma and raise awareness about the condition and EIP specialist teams.

The website features a selection of resources (https://epicminds.co.uk/resources/) including some short videos about psychosis and mental health as well as myth cards and care plans. If you or a loved one are affected by psychosis this website may provide invaluable information.

Referrals

You can call us direct – you do not need to be referred by your GP. We can also take referrals from other health services, friends and family.
