KMPT to deliver free educational events for professionals
Date: 10 October 2017
A mental health trust rated ‘outstanding’ for caring by the CQC is organising educational events for primary care professionals across Kent and Medway to help provide more support for patients living with a mental health condition.
Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) will host the free two hour evening events at a number of locations across the county.
Topics covered at the events will include anxiety management, management of depression in primary care and introductions to psychotic disorders and forensic psychiatry.
The first event will take place on Wednesday 25 October at the Village Hotel in Maidstone. Locations will also include Mid, East and West Kent.
KMPT experts including Dr Rafey Faruqui, Consultant Psychiatrist in Neuropsychiatry, who was recently made Honorary Professor at the University of Kent’s Centre for Health Service Studies will present at the event.
Dr Catherine Kinane, KMPT Executive Medical Director said:
“Our educational programme reflects our drive to create stronger relationships with key professionals such as GPs as part of the local strategic and transformation programme (STP) to provide improved and sustainable health and care services.
“These events will help professionals to reflect on how we can put the patient at the heart of the process. Each presentation will feature the latest prescribing guidelines as well as giving advice and coaching to professionals. We are looking forward to seeing as many professionals as possible from primary care.”
Health Education England, who is responsible for the education, training and workforce planning for all NHS staff, are funding the events.
Cavita Chapman, Senior Programme Manager, Mental Health Workforce & Education, said:
“We are very pleased to have collaborated with KMPT to ensure that mental health education and training is a priority for primary care”.
