Medical Education

Our Postgraduate Medical Education Department has a strong reputation for delivering high quality education in psychiatry. The department deals with the management, organisation and development of medical education within the trust to provide psychiatry placements and training for doctors all over the county with vibrant academic programmes in place for junior and senior trainees, SAS doctors and consultants.

Our teaching programmes include Balint groups, journal clubs, Tuesday GP/FY teaching, core trainee teaching, regional teaching, CPD programmes and a medical education research forum. We have also formed links with Brighton University for MRCPsych and MSC psych training, which core trainees attend.

Medical Education is funded via the Health Education England Kent Surrey and Sussex (Learning Development Agreement (LDA) and we are regulated by external bodies including the General Medical Council, specialty schools and the Royal Colleges.

In KMPT, we have consultant leads for curriculum, simulation, humanities and leadership who organise a range of different events throughout the year for trainees and other trust staff. The trust itself organises multi-professional conferences for all staff and these are advertised to all doctors.

KMPT hosts six-monthly feedback forums during summer (a cricket match between juniors and consultants) and at Christmas for trainees and consultants, which include a psychiatry quiz. These events are organised before trainees finish their rotation to enable feedback to be provided on their last placement and it also gives the trainee an opportunity to meet with their consultants out of the busy work environment.

Why choose Kent

Kent (also known as the Garden of England) is only a short distance from London and offers everything from ultra-modern art galleries to centuries-old heritage sites, romantic short weekend breaks to fun-filled family holidays and from luxury spa breaks to exhilarating cliff-top hikes.

Kent also has super-fast links to London, Belgium and France. Our training posts are based across a large area of sites, which include, Ashford, Thanet, Canterbury, Dartford, Medway, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. Most sites are commutable via the M25, M2 and M20 motorways and have good public transport links. Dartford attracts a London Fringe Weighting.
