Environmental Control Service

The Environmental Control Service for South East Thames provides equipment that enables individuals with significant physical disabilities, particularly of the upper limbs, to control their home environment.

The functions can include summoning help in an emergency or from a carer, controlling door entry, making and receiving telephone calls, operating electrical appliances and lighting and accessing computer technologies.

This service provision has a major impact on the lives of many severely disabled people, not only in terms of enhanced independence and dignity, but also in maintaining the integrity of family life and reducing dependence on care services and institutional care.

Once referred patients are assessed in their own home environment and an individual care plan is discussed and agreed.

Loaned equipment is supplied and maintained by the service.

We are consultant led and we have a full range of disciplines to meet the needs of our patients
