Introduction

Kent and Medway NHS and Social Partnership Trust (KMPT) places the health, safety, security and welfare of its service users, staff and visitors high amongst its priorities and will ensure it maintains safe and secure conditions throughout the organisation. It will work closely with partner organisations where the health, safety and welfare have shared ownership, to ensure co-operation at all levels.

CCTV and Body Worn Cameras (BWC) can be used to monitor a wide variety of locations to aid the deterrence and detection of crime and other incidents. CCTV and BWC is a significant and strategic asset in the prevention and detection of crime. It has the potential for broad use within the NHS and requires a robust procedure defining its operational requirements to ensure that any such system is efficient, effective and legal. Factors to be considered include; what is to be observed, how the images will be monitored and stored, the expected response to an incident and the desired outcome of installing or using the systems.

CCTV is now widely used within NHS care setting with the express intention of providing a safe environment for service users, staff and visitors. CCTV can only be operated and used appropriately within a stringent framework encompassing legal and regulatory requirements.
