Resources for use by families and carers

The Learning Disabilities Professional Senate has put together  collection of resources that may be useful to support families/ carers during the virus.

Different resources may be more appropriate for different people; the senate are not recommending any specific resources.

The Learning Disabilities Professional Senate makes clear that they do not accept responsibility for any of the information in these documents, but hope that they are useful in supporting people with learning disabilities and families and carers who support them.

The guidance in the a below documents is valid at the time that they are developed, but may need amending as government action changes.

Covid-19 vaccine

People with a learning disability have been prioritised for the covid-19 vaccine. If you think this is someone you care for you get in touch with their GP now about getting a vaccine.

Booster vaccination

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) added new easy-read leaflets on COVID-19 booster vaccination.

This easy read booster vaccination leaflet is aimed at people who have, or care for someone with a learning disability and explains the different types of booster vaccines, who will be offered it and the potential side effects. The people who will be offered the booster vaccination are:

  • people who are 50-years-old or older
  • health and social care workers
  • registered carers
  • people who are at more risk because they have certain health conditions. This includes people who are 16-years-old or older and are on the Learning Disability Register
  • people who are autistic and have some types of health conditions which could make them more poorly if they got coronavirus
